Comment: In his ninth year with the program, Akins took one of the most talented teams in Palm Beach County and led it to the District 9-8A championship and a regional championship. Dwyer earned its first state tournament berth and finished with a 24-6 record after a 69-65 state semifinal loss to eventual state champ Orlando Dr. Phillips. "We set a goal early in the year of trying to make the state final four and I was really happy we accomplished that goal. They just had that mindset that they were going to get to Lakeland and I was real proud of that. What made it special once we got there was the fact that we had six seniors on the team that really stepped up and were leaders. Two of them [Samantha Glodis and Kai James] signed to play in college and that's just showing that our program is moving forward."
