What's the one most mistaken impression about your faith?
That everyone's holier than thou in the Christian faith, that we think we're better than others. The true Christian knows he is flawed.
Favorite part of your work?
The feeling when I'm able to lead people to feel free in worship, to feel awe in God's presence. When people grasp what worship is all about, that's a great feeling.
A lot of people still want traditional elements in the worship time. We have a blended (contemporary and traditional) service and a contemporary service, but it's hard to please all of the people all of the time. I just hope people see my heart in worship. I'm really up there for an audience of one and to glorify him.
What do you do to relax?
I love spending time with my family and friends. We go to the pool, barbecue, play games, just simple things. I'm also a big football fan, so I enjoy watching football. I've always been a University of Alabama fan.
Favorite vacation spot?
We went recently to Busch Gardens (Tampa), and that was a great time. A vacation to me doesn't have to mean going too far. If it's with the family, that's enough for me.
One of my new favorites is August Rush. That was around the time I felt God calling me to ministry and changing my focus from self glorification to glorification of God. There is a line in one of the songs: "It takes a different kind of dream to make you smile." It spoke to me that I would never be satisfied until I did what God was calling me to do.
Favorite music and/or performers?
I like all types of music. For worship-style music, I love Hillsong, Chris Tomlin and Casting Crowns. One of my all-time favorite groups is the Righteous Brothers.
