Marlon Wayans, producer and actor in A Haunted House, is just as funny behind the camera as he is in front of one.

The movie opens Jan. 11, and Wayans joked about the film and his future plans in an interview in Miami.

The longtime comedian and actor took on his first role as producer when he came up with the idea for A Haunted House, a parody of the Paranormal Activity franchise.

The “found footage” style is like the type of filming seen in the Paranormal Activity movies and others, like The Blair Witch Project.

“I thought ‘What if Paranormal Activity happened to a black couple?’ I’ll call it Paranormal Blacktivity,” Wayans said, joking about the name of the movie.

After having the idea for the movie, Wayans got together with Rick Alvarez, who wrote the movie with him. Twenty pages of jokes later, they had what they thought was a good idea for a comedy movie.

The movie follows couples who have recently moved in together.  Wayans’ character discovers his new girlfriend has more than the usual emotional baggage, she’s also got some demons haunting her.

“It’s not a parody; it’s more of a horror-comedy, with parody moments, done found-footage style, so it’s like a mashup,” Wayans said. “I think it’s more of a movie than a parody. A parody a lot of times can be a lot of just random jokes, and I don’t think anything in this movie is random, I think it all makes sense in terms of the story.”

Wayans dispelled the rumors of a second part to White Chicks, but he did say he is getting more into the production side of movies.

“I like making movies, it doesn’t matter – parody or not. A comedy’s a comedy,” Wayans said.
