1. Feeding the finicky among us

When it comes to food choices, pickiness stays with some diners beyond childhood.
When it comes to food choices, pickiness stays with some diners beyond childhood. Like my sister, who at age 23 cringes at the thought of trying a tomato or beet, refuses a banana unless it's sliced and each piece smothered in peanut butter, and...

7. What to eat at Coachella 2013

If you've ever been to Coachella, you know the three-day music festival is a downright marathon. You're in the heat, jumping up and down for your favorite artists, screaming along to every song and fighting your way to the front of each stage. For this, you need fuel in the form of good food and strong libations.

11. New Mirchi Wok and Mango Grove make a delicious combination

It seems most appropriate that on Valentine’s Day 2013, Mango Grove and Mirchi Wok will celebrate a year of peace and love between a pair of culinary “isms” -- vegetarianism and carnivorism. On this date in 2012, chef/owner Rohit Chawla and staff opened their doors to Indian food aficionados who previously had to choose one or the other “ism” if they wanted to dine on Chawla’s creative recipes. Although Mango Grove and Mirchi Wok were in the same building, they had separate dining rooms and separate kitchens.

13. Holy Food!: Kosher and Its Imitators in Connecticut

What exactly is kosher? The short answer is a religious certification given to any cooked or processed food that an observant Jew is permitted to eat. A satisfying answer in detail is not easy, so a visual aid may help: picture three identical matzo balls, each floating in its own bowl of soup: one at Shuman's in Bloomfield, the second at Gold's in Westport, and the third at Michael's in Middletown. The first is kosher, the second is "kosher-style", and the third is just an unaffiliated bowl of matzo ball soup. In addition to these three states of existence, the matzo ball itself straddles yet another stratum of culinary holiness: kosher-for-Passover knoshing.

17. Dining Review: Four Café's spring menu satisfies

Four Café in Eagle Rock feels a little like walking into a pal's kitchen. (OK, if your pal had a glass dessert case and a cash register right by the kitchen door.) The vibe is friendly and relaxed and the locavore food is worth lingering over.

19. Clark Library trying out Pinterest

One of the hottest sites on the Web is Pinterest, www.pinter-est.com. What is Pinterest? It’s an online bulletin board, or pin board, where you can find out about everything from aardvarks to zoology — literally. I checked both topics and Pinterest covers them. Just the other day I was looking for some new vegetarian dishes and came up with three winners in about as many minutes by simply looking at the vegetarian foods board.
