Antietam Unit 236, the Sharpsburg American Legion Auxiliary, presented Sharpsburg residents Sheri and Doug Williams with a Blue Star Service banner at the Nov. 13 unit meeting.

The Williams’ son, Dustin, a 2009 Boonsboro High graduate, recently returned from Afghanistan and is now serving with the Army Reserve at the Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, Pa.

Dustin’s maternal grandparents, Wes and Yvonne Salter, were also present at the ceremony.

During the meeting, Legion member Maj. Chase Burnett, who himself recently returned from Afghanistan, delivered a presentation about Afghanistan.

Unit President Ava Gift stated it was an honor to actually have the soldier present at the presentation.

The Williams family stated they would proudly display it in their window.



Snyder gives talk on Confederate strategy

The Battle of Sharpsburg Camp No. 1582, Sons of Confederate Veterans will hold a meeting and Christmas party Saturday, Dec. 8, at 6 p.m. in the party room at Hempen Hill BBQ in Fountainhead Plaza in Hagerstown.

Guest speaker Tim Snyder will talk about the “Chesapeake and Ohio Canal in Confederate Military Strategy.” Space is limited. RSVP by Monday, Dec. 3.

Library to provide holiday music Tuesday

Scott Silbert, Bob Sykes, Anita Thomas and guest artists will present holiday music at Sharpsburg Library Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 7 p.m.

Light refreshments will be served.

Band to present holiday concert

The Rohrersville Cornet Band of Washington County will present its holiday concert Sunday, Dec. 2, at 3 p.m. at the Band Hall on Main Street in Rohrersville. 

The free concert will feature music of the season in traditional and contemporary styles.
