It is with great sadness that American Legion Post 211 remembers the passing of post commander George Doss Baker at the end of October.
Baker will be remembered as a caring and generous man who dedicated himself to the service of others and will be missed greatly. On Dec. 1, Carroll Gatling, new post commander, and Doss’s widow, Audrey, traveled to Baltimore with Jean and Dave Unger to make a donation to the Ronald McDonald House.
The money was collected and the proceeds from the tab program at the Legion were added. A Doss Baker Memorial Fund has been set up and contributions will continue to be sent to the Ronald McDonald House.
Baker was a philanthropist and his loss will be felt for some time. The Legion board would like to thank everyone who helped and supported the Legion during this time of loss and transition.
The National High School Oratorical Scholarship Program will be Feb. 3 in the post ballroom at 7 p.m.
Area high school students will compete with their knowledge of the Constitution during a speech and question period. Light refreshments will be served after the program.
If you know a student in Washington County who would like to compete, call Pat Ham at 301-791-5216.
