The Battle of Sharpsburg Camp 1582, Sons of Confederate Veterans, swore in its newest member, Roger Lee Boothe Jr., at its Jan. 2 meeting at Sharpsburg Town Hall. Boothe was sworn in upon verification of his ancestor, Pvt. Charles W. Boothe, Co. C, 29th Virginia Infantry, who served in the Confederate Army. From left, Camp Cmdr. Master gardeners teach people good gardening techniques through talks, plant clinics, demonstration gardens and other activities.  Training will be held Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Feb. 14 to April 18 at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center near Sharpsburg.

Church to hold potpie dinner

Benevola United Methodist Church, at 19925 Benevola Church Road, will hold a buffet style chicken or ham slippery potpie dinner Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. at the church social hall.

The menu includes chicken and ham potpie, green beans, coleslaw, pears, assorted desserts, iced tea, lemonade and coffee.

Admission is by donation only. Donations will go toward Micah’s Backpack, a program which helps feed children in South County.
