Children's Village of Washington County Inc. will host its 20th annual Kids Alive Fest, open house and Community Safety Day on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Children's Village campus at 1546 Mount Aetna Road in Hagerstown.
Scheduled activities include a K-9 demonstration by the Maryland Correctional Institution at noon, an auto extrication demonstration by the Maugansville Goodwill Volunteer Fire Co. at 1 p.m. and a Ronald McDonald Safety Show at 2 p.m.
Additional activities include car-seat safety checks by Community Rescue Service in the Brethren Mutual Insurance parking lot and child IDs using the MdCHIP program by the Gaye McGovern Insurance Agency, State Farm Insurance/Hagerstown Masonic Lodge.
Representatives from area organizations will participate in safety-related displays and activities.
There will be tours of the Power of Fire House. Families also will have the opportunity to complete safety stations throughout the day to experience what students coming to Children's Village learn during the school year.
Tickets may be purchased for weather-permitting activities, including mini-car rides, a radar gun contest by the Smithsburg Police Department and a fire-hose spraying challenge by the Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co.
The sponsor for the event is Volvo Powertrain.
Admission is free. The event will be held rain or shine.
Children's Village of Washington County Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing free life-safety education to elementary school children in Washington County.
Christian drama troupe will perform at church
An interdenominational Christian drama troupe will lead the worship service at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 11833 Greenhill Drive (off Jefferson Blvd. between Eastern Boulevard and Robinwood Drive) on Sunday at 10 a.m.
The Southwest Unit of the troupe that will be in Hagerstown is based in Oxnard, Calif. The troupe has been traveling the world since 1963 sharing the Christian message through drama.
The founder of the troupe was Charles M. Tanner, who wrote more than 3,000 plays for the players.
Rohrersville Cornet Band concert slated for Sunday
The Rohrersville Cornet Band's first concert of its 175th year will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Band Hall on Main Street in Rohrersville.
Holly Feather will direct the band.
Admission is free and refreshments will be available.
