Museum plans gala
The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts will hold its 80th anniversary gala Saturday, Oct. 1, starting at 6:30 p.m.
The event costs $150 per person; it is black-tie optional.
The event will be held in the museum’s newly completed Kaylor Atrium. The reservation deadline is Sept. 16.
For ticket information, call the museum at 301-739-5727 or go to www.wcmfa.org.
More than 80 years ago, Hagerstown native Anna Brugh Singer and her husband, noted American Impressionist painter William Henry Singer, established an art museum and gave the building and 100 works of art to the community with the stipulation that admission be free and that the museum provide a program of public education. The cornerstone was laid July 15, 1930. The museum opened to the public Sept. 16, 1931.
The gala will include a social hour and a four-course dinner under the atrium’s glass ceiling. A silent auction of eight art-related items and experiences will be offered. The money raised will benefit existing programs and help sustain the museum.
