Gridiron Classic to be played Nov. 5

 The ninth annual Hagerstown Gridiron Classic pitting the South Hagerstown High Rebels against the North Hagerstown High Hubs will be Saturday, Nov. 5, at 2 p.m. at Mike Callas Stadium at North High.
The winner of the football game will be presented with a trophy by the mayor of Hagerstown. The winning team will house the trophy at their school for the remainder of the 2011-12 school year.

St. Joseph’s Church plans annual bazaar
St. Joseph Catholic Church, at the corner of Virginia Avenue and Halfway Boulevard, will host its annual Christmas bazaar and bake sale Thursday, Nov. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parish center behind the church.
A handmade quilt, a framed Christmas cross-stitch piece and a folk art painted piece will be offered among several raffles. Other items for sale include handmade gifts, decorations, baked goods and candies.
Sandwiches, drinks, and desserts will be available all three days.

Reminder
Parents of Washington County students, be sure to note the following: Washington County Public Schools will close 2 1/2 hours early Friday and will be closed Monday and Tuesday for professional learning days. Several schools will host parent/teacher conferences on those dates. Classes will resume Wednesday.

Trick or treat
Halfway will hold trick-or-treat night Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. Those who participate are asked to turn on a porch light.

Witchcraft event  
The Jonathan Hager House and Museum will hold a program on witchcraft Thursday at 7 p.m. Those attending will learn about witches in the Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia areas. This event is free. For more information, call 301-739-8393 or go to www.hagerhouse@hagerstownmd.org.

Mummers Parade
The annual Alsatia Mummers Parade, the traditional fall parade in downtown Hagerstown, will be Saturday, beginning at 6 p.m. Many area bands, floats, organizations, and costumed mummers will perform. For more information, call the Alsatia Club at 301-739-2044.
