The Humane Society of Washington County is hoping to increase adoptions through its March Madness adoption campaign this month.
All adoptable dogs and cats will be available for adoption at half off the normal adoption fee. The adoption fee for dogs will be $75 and $35.50 for cats.
The adoption fee for dogs includes spaying/neutering; distemper, bordatella and rabies vaccinations, de-worming, flea treatment and microchipping.
Additionally, each dog will receive a free ID tag, one month free pet insurance and a complimentary examination by a participating Washington County veterinarian.
The cat adoption fee includes spaying/neutering, feline leukemia/FIV testing, distemper and rabies vaccinations, de-worming, microchipping, and flea treatment.

The shelter is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the adoption floor opening at 10 a.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. with the adoption floor opening at 10 a.m.; and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the adoption floor opening at 10 a.m.

Discovery Station
On Saturday, Brittany Beggs, HM TV Channel 6’s meteorologist, will present “2013 — A Solar Maximum” during Discovery Station’s Saturday Plus program.
The program begins at 1 p.m.
It will be a discussion about sunspots and the solar cycle.
Saturday Plus programs are free with a full, all day access-paid museum admission or with annual memberships.
Downtown parking is free on weekends. There is on-site parking beside the museum off Summit Avenue opposite the county courthouse. The museum entrance is at 101 W. Washington St.

Rummage and bake sale
A rummage sale will be held Friday, April 5, and Saturday, April 6, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 802 Summit Ave.
Homemade baked goods, soups and other food will be for sale.
The event is sponsored by Emmanuel’s United Methodist Women and will benefit the church and its missions.
