Cindy Downs will be giving a presentation on “Edible Flowers” at Dollie’s Tea Room Thursday at 7 p.m.
Cindy will demonstrate recipes that include flower ice cubes, stuffed lilies, candied flowers and lavender cordials. Participants will also sample rose-scented scones, flower dip and flower butter, flower vinaigrette, flower garden salad and lavender cookies.
Come and learn which flowers are edible and how to prepare them. Attendees will receive a packet of recipes.

Rock the Hilltop party scheduled for Saturday
Rock the Hilltop 2011, a back-to-school party for the community, will be held at Hilltop Christian Fellowship on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Fun and activities will include games, face painting, a moon bounce, a dunk tank, a clown who makes animal balloons, food, cotton candy, door prizes and free school supplies. Come and share a day of fun for the whole family. Everything is free.
And you won’t want to miss “Barb and Friends” performing a puppet show on, Sunday at 10:30 p.m.

Snyder library schedules movie, book events
A Novel Destinations Movie Afternoon will be held at the Clear Spring Library on Tuesday, Aug. 2, at 1 p.m.
The film will be “National Lampoon’s European Vacation,” rated R. You do not have to be in the summer reading club to attend the event, but you must be 17. Snacks are provided

Also at the library, there will be an Adult Book Discussion Group on Wednesday, Aug. 3, at 11:15 a.m.
The book to be discussed is “The Dry Grass of August,” Anna Jean Mayhew’s debut novel. The story depicts Southern life during the segregation era, and what it meant for a young girl on her way to adulthood and for the woman who meant the world to her.
Given the popularity of books such as “The Help” and “The Secret Life of Bees,” the discussion group invites you to read “The Dry Grass of August,” come to the discussion and let them know how it holds up in comparison with the earlier works.
