Sharpsburg Elementary will hold back to school nights Monday, Aug. 20, at 5:30 p.m. for grades prekindergarten, kindergarten, grade one and grade two.
On Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 5:30 p.m., sessions are designated for grades three, four and five.
Principal Ryan Hench and PTA members will hold brief presentations followed by 20-minute rotations for parents to visit classrooms.
The event will conclude by 6:45 p.m.
Ruritan to hold Fairplay Days
District 12 Ruritan, at the corner of Manor Church and Breathedsville roads, will hold Fairplay Days Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event includes jousting, a car show, food and vendors.
The bluegrass band Stoney Creek will perform Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Heritage museum to hold Spudfest
The Rural Heritage Museum will hold Spudfest on Saturday, Aug. 25, beginning at 11 a.m. at Washington County Agricultural Education Center.
Potatoes planted in the spring will be harvested by horse-drawn plow.
Children can earn prizes for finding the largest and smallest potatoes, and also participate in a potato sack race, a spoon relay and other family games.
All museum, homestead and village buildings will be open to visitors.
Master baker Bill Theriault and the bread baking guild will hold an outdoor bread baking demonstration at the outdoor wood-fired oven, starting at 7:30 a.m., with bread baking between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m.
Two-pound loaves of artisan bread will be sold for $5 each. Limited quantities will be available.
The bread will be ready between 2 and 3 p.m.
The master gardeners will host their annual Taste of the Garden event from 1 to 3 p.m. at the German Four Square Garden.
Commission to announce Farm of the Year winner
The Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission will announce the winner of the 2012 Washington County Maryland Farm of the Year Saturday, Aug. 25, at noon at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center’s multipurpose building.
Renners celebrate 50th anniversary
Sharpsburg Bible Church Pastor Gene Renner and his wife, Erma, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 1. The Renners were married in 1962 at Zittlestown Church of God, now known as Boonsboro Bible Church.
The Revs. Robert Easterday and Paul Hawbaker performed the ceremony. Pastor Renner, formerly a Sharpsburg resident, has served as pastor of Sharpsburg Bible Church for 35 years.
BHS Class of 1977 to hold reunion meeting
The Boonsboro High Class of 1977 will hold a 35th class reunion meeting Sunday, Aug. 26, at 5 p.m. at the home of Sherry Reeder Bingaman off Appletown Road.

Ambulance company to hold barbecue
The Boonsboro Ambulance Co. will hold a chicken barbecue at the station at 7619 Old National Pike, Saturday from 9 a.m. until sold out.
All proceeds will go to the Brigitte and Brittany Heller Scholarship Fund.
Boonsboro resident Brigitte Heller died June 28 from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident.
Heritage Festival seeks vendors
Sharpsburg Heritage Festival organizers are seeking food and craft vendors for the weekend of Saturday, Sept. 15, and Sunday, Sept. 16.
Celebrating its 20th year, the festival coincides with the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Antietam observance.

Sharpsburg Heritage Festival organizers are selling Macy’s “Shop for a Cause” shopping passes for $5.
