Midwinter doldrums can be licked in many ways.
Now that much of the snow has melted, it's time to tie on the walking shoes and hit the Western Maryland Rail Trail. The towpath is still pretty muddy, but the rail trail is clear and the trees are beginning to show signs of new growth.
If you prefer something inside, but outside your home, Hancock in Motion is sponsoring a free popcorn-and-movie night, Saturday, Feb. 26, at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center.
The movie "Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2" will be shown. Again, the event is free, but donations are accepted to help with future events.
Event to raise funds for new sign at school
Mark your calendars now for a fundraiser sponsored by the Hancock Athletic Boosters to raise money to purchase a new school sign.
The new sign will be a digital marquee that will replace the outdated sign in front of Hancock Middle-Senior High School.
A basket bingo is the first event out of the starting gate on Sunday, March 13, at the school, with doors opening at noon.
Tickets cost $25 for 20 games and food and other games will be offered.
Other fundraising events will be coming and fundraising ideas and sources are welcome.
The sign will be used both for school events and for events in the community gym.

Church plans auction
Tickets for St. Thomas' Episcopal Church's annual Friendship Banquet and Auction, to be held Saturday, March 5, at 6 p.m., are now on sale.
Tickets cost $15 per person, which includes a dinner and opportunity to bid on many items.

On Saturday, Feb. 26, adults are invited to an event at the Hancock American Legion to assist with its building fund. There will be a drawing from 6 to 9 p.m. with $1,000 as top prize, Tickets cost $30 each for a ticket holder and one guest. Entertainment is karaoke/DJ by Glen Munson. Tickets are limited so call 301-678-6723. Post members and guests are welcome.
