Vietnam Veterans steak feed fundraiser scheduled for Sept. 10

The Vietnam Veterans annual steak feed fundraiser is 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at American Legion Post 42 picnic area. Tickets cost $15 and are available from any member or at the bar. For more information, call 301-733-7676.

Losses for the week were 20 pounds.

Bea Myers was the best TOPS loser with 4 1/2 pounds lost. Mary Jo Kemper was the best KOPS loser.

The no-no food of the week is snack crackers. Lu Marletta won $1 from the Ha! Ha! Box.

Awards were given to Elsie Horst for a 10-pound loss, perfect attendance with no gain and contest winner in June. Janice Frye and Kathy Freeze also received awards for their losses. Joan Gilbert was the Honored KOPS for June.

The program featured a Chinese auction. Edna Jones read an article about healthy lifestyles, including friendships and related it to the friendships and support of our TOPS members. Patsy Martin read an article on healthy living, and gave her Pound Puppy to Frye.

Orders are being taken for small yard flags.The group meets Monday mornings at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown.

Yard sale at Methodist church

There will be a yard sale behind John Wesley United Methodist Church, 129 N. Potomac St., at 7 a.m. Saturday, July 30. Free parking is available in the City Market Lot.

The event will be held rain or shine, and proceeds benefit the church’s music department. For more information, call 301-733-0391.



Dance Day celebration

The Washington County Recreation Department will host its National Dance Day Celebration at Rockland Woods Elementary School from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 31.

Admission is free. The event opens at 12:30 p.m. and interactive performances begin at 1 p.m. in the air-conditioned gymnasium.

The celebration invites communities and individuals to express their creativity through all types of dance.

National Dance Day events are held to promote physical health and wellness across the nation by encouraging people of all ages to get up and dance. The community is invited to participate or just watch and enjoy the scheduled performances, including Zumba and hip-hop, ballet and contemporary, belly dancing and Drums Alive.

Rockland Woods Elementary School is at 18201 Rockland Drive, Hagerstown. The school is in the Westfield Community Development off Sharpsburg Pike.
