A reunion of the Waters family will be Saturday, Aug. 27, at South County Park, 3106 Chestnut Grove Road, south of Sharpsburg.
Pavilion No. 1 has been rented from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The pavilion has electricity. Family members should bring enough food and drink for their immediate family. Many of the Waters’ descendants are from the Sharpsburg area. Children of John Newton and Frances Johnson Waters include Boyd (Chalkie) Waters; Ted Waters; Robert Waters; John Waters; Raymond (Payme) Waters; Margaret Waters Moore; Mary Waters Saylor; and others. Family members will be coming from Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, New Jersey and South Carolina. Other local families include relatives of George Waters, Raymond “Nelson” Waters, Lloyd “Melton” Waters, Lee Waters, Frances ‘Ercel” Dunn and Mary “Irene” Cronise.
Master Gardeners to host event Saturday
Master Gardeners will host an informational event at the Rural Heritage Museum’s German Four-Square Garden Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.
Master Gardeners will help participants regain enthusiasm in their garden during the summer months by teaching watering tips, plant lifespan, soil replenishment and insect damage inspections.
Gardeners will provide information on the German Four-Square Garden and how it was laid out.
Master Baker Bill Theriault and his bread-baking guild members will present an artisan bread baking demonstration. They will begin their day around 7:30 a.m. prepping the oven and fire for the bread baking.
Bread baking will be taking place between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m.

From Interstate 70, proceed south on Md. 65 for about seven miles. The ag center and museum are on the left.
