Proud parents Mr. and Mrs. Morgan want to share their pride in their daughter, Shayla.  She received the Golden Table award for being a great example of showing respect last marking period.

She also received a Golden Table award last year for showing responsibility.

Shayla is a third-grader in Mrs. Wagner’s class at Maugansville Elementary School. 

Two students from each class are selected each marking period to be recognized for displaying one of the character traits from the six pillars of the Character Counts! initiative. The six traits are respect, responsibility, citizenship, trustworthiness, caring and fairness. 

The students selected are honored during their lunchtime at a Golden Table, where they receive a book and other special treats from the school’s counselor, Mrs. King, and the PTA

Girls on the Run registration set
Registration for Girls on the Run of Washington County will take place Monday, starting at 7 p.m. at Spicher’s Appliance, 13427 Pennsylvania Ave. in Hagerstown.

Girls on the Run is 10-week after-school program for third- through fifth-grade girls which combines training for a 3.1-mile running event with self-esteem enhancing and uplifting workouts.

Teams are forming for the spring season at Maugansville, Potomac Heights and Paramount elementary schools and Grace Academy. Space is limited. 

The program costs $150. Financial aid is available.

Chocolate festival planned for Saturday

Trinity United Church of Christ, at 29 E. Ave. in State Line, Pa., will host a chocolate festival Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. 

Chocolate candies, cookies, sweetheart gifts, gift baskets and raffle items will be available.

Historical society meeting set for Feb. 16
The Middleburg/Mason-Dixon Line Historical Society will meet Thursday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. at the State Line Ruritan Building, off U.S. 11 north in State Line Community Park.

The guest speaker, John A. Miller, author and historian for the Monterey Pass and South Mountain State Battlefields, will present “A Forgotten Battle, the Battle of Monterey Pass.” 

His talk is about the first major battle after the Battle of Gettysburg — the only battle to be fought on both sides of the Mason-Dixon Line. All guests are welcome.  Refreshments will be served.

Spaghetti dinner and auction
On Friday, Feb. 17, Broadfording Christian Academy, at 13535 Broadfording Church Road, will host a spaghetti dinner at 4 p.m. and a silent auction, which will begin at 5 p.m. 

There will also be a live auction at 7 p.m. and a homemade soup and bake sale.
