Photo course offered by HCC

Hagerstown Community College will offer its advanced photography course, “Photography for Public Discourse,” on Monday nights from 5:30 to 9 p.m. beginning Aug. 27 and ending Dec. 10, in Kepler Center.

The course prepares students for professional commercial use of their art and covers topics such as commercial portraits, environmental or event portraits and street shooting.

Students will also take part in special projects and field trips where they will have the opportunity to photograph community events and events from their personal lives.

The course is taught by veteran photographer Benita Keller, a fine-arts photographer and photojournalist who has been photographing for more than 25 years and who has received numerous awards for her work.

“This course is really geared toward those who want to make important fine-art photographs of their families and friends or who want to become commercial or event photographers,” Keller said. “The class benefits new photographers as well as advanced photographers who want to develop their ‘eye’ and their skills for photographing people.”

Students who participate in the class will produce a portfolio of work and will be eligible to take part in the “The Eye Test” exhibit at the Washington County Arts Council in December.

For more information, send an email to Keller at bkeller@hagers towncc.edu.
