Governor Rick Perry struggled for 45 seconds and failed to answer a question at Wednesday night's Presidential Debate.
The guffe began with Perry saying, "I will tell you, it`s three agencies of government when I get there that are gone - commerce, education and the, uh...what`s the third one there?"
Perry's momentary lapse in memory has sparked another debate -- whether or no he is ready to be president.
UT Arlington Student Brendon Harris said, "If you don`t know your stuff when you`re having an interview where you should know what you`re talking about, then that`s just a statement for the rest of his career doing that."
Some supporters believe Perry's messup will endear him to voters.
"It certainly shows that he`s human, just like the rest of us," said Jonathan Boos with Dallas County Young Republicans. "Maybe people won`t give the current president such a hard time about not remembering how many states we have in the union."
After a moderator asked Perry if he could not remember the third agency, Perry said, "The third one? I can`t...I`m sorry. Oops."
Drew Power said, "I think he needs to give it up. You can`t just go, uh, uh, oops. You know? When you make a mistake with the economy, you can`t just say `Oops.`'
Perry later said the third agency would be energy. Thursday, he defended his campaign, saying everyone makes mistakes.
"I'm glad I had my boots on out there, because I really stepped in it out there," Perry said. "The bottom line is, I may have forgotten energy, but I haven't forgotten my conservative principles."
But, both critics and supporter said this mistake could cost him the election.
Radio Host Mark Davis said, "He needs to be really good from here on out. If he is, this gets forgotten. If, however, he has anything that remotely resembles this kind of moment again, then we will look back on this and say it was the beginning of the end of his campaign."
