Talks are in the works that could lead to a switch from the National League to the American League due to realignment and in part to develop a rivalry with the Texas Rangers.
"I don't really look at the Rangers as a Dallas-Houston rivalry. Our rivals in baseball are the Cardinals and Cubs," said Astros fan Nick Diaz.
"Astros (have) been in the N.L. since the (1962 Houston) Colt .45s and I think it would be a big mistake," says Barry Naquin.
Another Astros fan Peter Walbridge said, “definitely against it. I love the rivalry with the cardinals. I love the rivalry with the cubs."
The players union is apparently in favor of two 15-team leagues which would create five playoff spots within each one.
"Some of the fans may have a little bit of a problem with it because historically we've always been a national league team," said Astros third baseman Chris Johnson.
"It's a better game in the National League, I feel like, just because there is so much strategy," said Astros pitcher Mark Melancon. "I like the National League. I think when the pitcher has to hit it makes the game a little more interesting."
“If they put us in a different league then we're gonna have to adjust and play some different teams, get to know them and try to get some wins over there," said Johnson.
If the Astros move to the A.L. in the future, thank Major League Baseball for destroying the tradition of Houston being an N.L. team.
