Remember the balloon boy’s father?
Yeah, well two years ago he invented the story that his homemade weather balloon flew away, carrying his 6-year-old son over Colorado with it.
Turned out to be a hoax. Richard Heene was just trying to make his family more marketable to TV producers. Instead of a reality show, he got a jail cell for three months.
Now he's got a big new idea.
He's auctioning off his famous Jiffy Pop weather balloon to raise money for the tsunami victims in Japan.
Hmm... Didn't that tragedy happened three months ago? You'd think seeing his wife is Japanese he would have invented this idea a little sooner.
He swears it's all legit and being handled by a California attorney.
“Once the high bid comes in, the money would be transferred to a trust account. He will disperse the money to the proper charities. We will receive nothing," said Heene.
Bidding ended today. No word on what it actually sold for, as the bids were sealed.
Makes it easier to invent a great success story that way.
This balloon boy is a real success, 9-year-old Bobby Bradley from Albuquerque.
Last weekend, after training for 2 years, bobby became the youngest trained pilot to fly solo in a hot air balloon.
His dad started at 14. Late bloomer, I guess.
The Guinness World Record folks don't have a category for youngest pilot, but Bobby doesn't care.
"I know I did it. At 9, I soloed a hot air balloon," said Bradley. The Guinness folks don't have a category for Heene either, but we do full of hot air.
