A 9-pound gold nugget is on the auction block.
The huge nugget was found last year in Nevada County, and is estimated to go for as much as $400,000.
Holabird-Kagin Americana is running the auction, and said this specimen is the largest intact California gold nugget. According to information on the auction website, the nugget was discovered near the town of Washington, near Nevada City.
Wednesday's auction includes thousands of items, including original Wells Fargo receipt books from 1907, documents from mining companies in the Sacramento region, and various assay reports.
