PSG Coach Carlo Ancelotti said the 37-year-old midfielder is not in game shape and likely will make his debut against French rival Marseille next week when the clubs play Feb. 24 in league play or Feb. 27 in a French Cup match.
“I think he can play easily against Marseille after one week more training, no problem,” Ancelotti said. “I will make the decision whether he starts or not.
“He will stay here and work. He will stay here and improve his physical condition. He still needs to work, and with a week's work he will be ready the following week against Marseille.”
Beckham, who last played Dec. 1 when the Galaxy won its second consecutive MLS Cup title, is attempting to win a fourth league title in a different nation. Beckham also won league titles in England with Manchester United and in Italy with AC Milan.
Ancelotti said the former England captain can help shore up the PSG defense as well as bring veteran leadership.
“He brings his experience, his quality, his professionalism," Ancelotti said. "These are the things we need from David. “I'm not just keeping him for the Cup or the Champions League. He can play in every match.”
