  5. Hanukkah recipe: Fresh herb salad with seeds

The Hanukkah menu revolves around oil -- it's the symbol of the holiday. But that means when you're planning a menu you need to think of a dish that will cut through some of that richness. Something like this light salad of bitter herbs and toasted seeds from cookbook writer Phyllis Glazer.

  7. Dinner tonight! Grilled blue cheese and pear sandwich

For a slight twist on a classic comfort food, wedge crumbled blue cheese between slices of raisin brioche, along with thinly sliced pear. Cook until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is soft and oozing, 3 to 4 minutes on each side. If you have enough self-restraint to keep from eating the sandwich over the stove (I totally understand if you don't), plate your creation, drizzled with a little chestnut honey. Grilled cheese never looked so good.

  17. Dinner tonight! Olive oil pancakes

Pancakes are a natural for breakfast, but what about dinner? Go ahead, indulge yourself. Light and fluffy, these pancakes have that perfect buttermilk tang. But what sets them apart is a touch of olive oil -- rich and fruity, a good olive oil adds wonderful fragrant notes. And chopped dark chocolate adds pure magic to every bite (doesn't chopped dark chocolate add a little magic to just about anything?).
