Texas was named college football’s most valuable team for the second straight season according to Chris Smith of Forbes.com.
The Longhorns program has a net worth of $133 million, up from $129 million last year, according to the website, which took a close-up look at the business of college football. Texas also generated $104 million in revenue and made a profit of $78 million.
Michigan leapfrogged Notre Dame this season to come in second on the list with a value of $120 million. The Fighting Irish were third with a total value of $103 million.
LSU ($102 million) and Georgia ($99 million) rounded out the top five.
Florida was seventh on the list with a value of $93 million with a revenue of $74 million and a profit of $51 million. The Gators were the only team from the state of Florida to make the top 20 list.
Also included in Forbes.com’s report, was the best college football program’s for the money as well as the worst college football program’s for the money.
Kansas State was ranked the best team for the money with the Wildcats spending $1.445 million per win over the past three seasons. The total expense during that time frame was $38 million. Stanford was second on the list with each win costing the program $1.522 million and a total expense of $48 million.
Kansas was ranked the worst team for the money with the Jayhawks spending a little over $8 million per win over the past three seasons. The 3-year average for the Kansas football program was $48 million. Indiana was second on the list spending a little more than $5.8 million per win over the past three seasons.
Alabama’s Nick Saban was ranked college football’s most powerful coach.
