Skip Holtz becomes the latest college coaching casualty Sunday as the 48-year-old was fired after three seasons at USF.
The Bulls were expected to be a Big East contender, but after opening with back-to-back wins the team lost nine of its last 10 games to finish with a mark of 3-9. It was the worst season in school history.
Holtz finished with a 16-21 overall mark in three seasons with the school. That includes a 5-16 record in the Big East.
His firing means that there are now 12 head coaching openings currently in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
Meanwhile, looking to make a splash, the University of Idaho has reportedly hired a Petrino: Paul Petrino, the brother of former Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino. Paul Petrino spent the past two seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Razorbacks. He was the running backs and receivers coach for the Vandals back in 1992-94.
