DETROIT (AP) — A Canadian family is searching for their dog, which ran off during a U.S. customs check last month in Detroit.
Ana Wilcken, her husband, Niels, and their 9-year-old son, Joseph, put in a day of searching Friday in Detroit, but didn't find Ash, a 9-month-old terrier pup missing since Dec. 21.
Ana Wilcken tells the Detroit Free Press (http://on.freep.com/SaXYMU ) they "have been looking all over, at all of the shelters and the animal hospitals."
Ash got loose at the Ambassador Bridge as a customs officer opened a cage to return it to the Wilckens.
They suspended their search that day to continue their trip to Atlanta for a Christmas reunion with relatives.
The family said Friday they were heading home to Waterloo, Ontario.
Customs and Border Protection officials have apologized.
