Robert "Bob" Boening, 82, of Petoskey, made his journey home to Heaven on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012.

Bob was born Nov. 23, 1929, in Petoskey, and graduated from Petoskey High School in 1948.

On Sept. 5, 1953, he married his loving wife, Joan, and was happily married for 55 years until her passing in 2009.

Bob went to work at Michigan Maple Block Company in 1952 and retired from there after 42 years.

Bob was the most thoughtful, kindhearted and caring man. He always had a smile on his face and cared deeply for others.

He was an avid hunter, loved camping and woodworking.

He has been a member at the Petoskey Fraternal Order of Eagles since 1964, was a Golden Eagle member.

Bob is survived by his children, Carla (Mike) Bischoff, Don (Nancy) Boening, Christine (Craig) Reyner, Jayne (Mike) Gray, all of Petoskey. Bob is also survived by his sister, Beverly Runge of New Port Richie, Fla.; and three sisters-in-law, Joyce Boening, Juanita Swenor and Norma Jensen, all of Petoskey. The special joys in his life were his grandchildren, Aaron and Mike Gray, Kelsey Pemberton and her fiance Paul Bricker, Mack (Heather) Boening, Gus Boening, Jasmica (Brent) Ager, Tarrel Lewis; and by his stepgrandchildren, Keith, Morgan, Taylor and Brandi; as well as many nieces and nephews and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; parents, Clarence and Gladys Boening; brother, Michael Boening; and brother-in-law, Art Runge.

A special thanks is extended to Dr. Terry Jackson of internal medicine, the physicians of Bay Street Orthopaedics, the staff at Bortz Health Care, and the funeral directors at Stone Funeral Home.

Visitation will take place 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Stone Funeral Home, Petoskey. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Stone Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorial donations in Robert's memory may be directed to the Petoskey Friendship Center, or charity of choice.
