  1. Not even the Boston bombing can unite a fractured America

Ordinarily, I'd thank you for writing. But truth is, I am not grateful you wrote; your note last week was one of the more troubling things I have read. I do not blame you for leaving it unsigned. "We stand together," I had written. "We stand defiant....

  3. 'Saturday Night Live' on Yahoo!: Where to start?

Beginning in September, Yahoo! will become the exclusive online home of "Saturday Night Live's" massive 38-year archive of shows. That's roughly 742 episodes, not including the promised additions of behind-the-scenes clips, rehearsal video and selected live musical performances.

  5. Sarah Palin for Senate? Some tea party activists want her to run

SEATTLE — Sarah Palin’s last elective position in Alaska ended early when in 2009 she abandoned the governorship midway through her first term. But tea party activists appear eager for a comeback, urging supporters to contribute money toward...

  7. Letters: What ails the Republican Party

Re "GOP aims to alter tone, not positions," April 13 I consider myself a moderate Republican, but after holding my nose and voting twice for George W. Bush and then for John McCain, I voted last November for Barack Obama. As summarized by the Bobby...

  9. If Ben Carson really wants 'rational' discussion, why's he on Fox News so often?

In stepping down last week as a speaker at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine commencement, Dr. Ben Carson again took on the role of media/culture critic and martyr to "political correctness."

  11. TV picks: Louis C.K., 'Veep,' Wonder Woman, woolly mammoths

<strong>"Louis C.K.: Oh My God" (premieres Saturday, HBO)</strong>. Funny, deep and unsparing of himself, Louis C.K. is arguably the most important comic going, both for his adventures in form -- his FX series "Louie," now on hiatus between its third and fourth seasons, grafts art film, standup and situation comedy -- and his experiments in business. He earned more than $1 million by selling unrestricted-use downloads of his 2011 "Live at the Beacon Theater" straight to fans at $5 a pop; similarly he sold tickets to the tour during which "Oh My God" was taped/filmed/recorded directly through his website, cutting out ticket agency fees and keeping prices low. (One hundred thousand tickets were sold, at $45 per, in 45 hours.) Also in the spirit of giving value for money, it's his habit to burn all his material after a year, so the jokes in this concert, from the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, are All Fresh.

  13. Sarah Palin is right about Washington's press

We call it the "nerd prom," hoping that a dose of irony will inoculate us. But there's no use denying it: The White House Correspondents' Association's annual dinner is a deeply narcissistic event. I realize I'm jumping on the bandwagon late here...

  21. President Obama: When making nice can be naughty

Does it matter that President Obama was right? That Kamala Harris is &ldquo;the best-looking attorney general in the country&rdquo;?
Does it matter that President Obama was right? That Kamala Harris is “the best-looking attorney general in the country”? Not really. As a quip, it failed; as an attempt at gallantry, it didn’t need saying. The president cushioned his...

  23. Obama calls Kamala Harris 'best-looking:' Accurate, but sexist?

Let’s just get it out on the table: California, quite simply, has freakishly good-looking elected officials. Between the stunning Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris and the gorgeous Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, this, as they say, is the objective truth. I&...
