11. TV pitches: So I've got this idea for a show ...

Two weeks from now, TV networks will announce their new slate of shows for next season. The majority of these series will be variations on a formula. Procedurals. High-concept sci-fi and fantasy dramas. Nighttime soaps. Comedies starring familiar faces. This is how it works. Out-of-the-ordinary shows tend to be too risky when the goal is big ratings.

  15. Man Spends Life Savings On Carnival Game

Winning is great, but at what cost? A man in New Hampshire recently paid the price for his competitive nature.Henry Gribbohm allegedly lost his entire life savings on a carnival game! He blew through $2,600 while trying to win an Xbox Kinect in a game called Tubs of Fun, where contestants toss balls into a tub. The 30-year-old kept losing, but kept trying to win back his money by going double or nothing. He ended up dropping $300 in just a few minutes, then went home to get $2,300 more and lost that too! All he got to show for it was a stuffed banana with dreadlocks. Gribbohm says he went back the next day to complain, and the man running the game gave him back $600. But he’s still convinced the game was rigged and is considering a lawsuit. We’re not sure what’s sadder, the fact that his life savings was only $2,600 or that he spent it all on a silly game.
