Hinrich earned the state's co-Mr. Basketball honors along with close friend and future college teammate Nick Collison. Hinrich originally committed to Iowa State and then-coach Tim Floyd. But when Floyd left for the NBA to succeed Phil Jackson as coach of the Bulls, Hinrich committed to Kansas. He helped lead the Jayhawks to back-to-back Final Four appearances.
