1. Dennis Pitta wants to remain with the Ravens (and hopes to remain a handful for opposing defenses)

After a breakout 2012 season, fourth-year Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta is no longer flying under the radar.

After a breakout 2012 season, fourth-year Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta is no longer flying under the radar. Last season, Pitta lined up all over the field for the Ravens, often in the slot. At season’s end, he ranked 10th among tight ends with 61...

  3. Ravens cap Super Bowl winning season with ring ceremony

Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs had a pretty good idea about what was hidden on the table in front of him after he tried to move his seat and he was told that it wasn't a good idea.

  5. Ravens coordinator Jim Caldwell prepares for first full season in charge of offense

The voices of Joe Flacco and Dean Pees were audible from a football field away — Flacco barking out line calls and Pees providing instruction and encouragement to his young defense.

  7. Agent Joe Linta says he was trying to defend Joe Flacco, not bash Ravens

Agent Joe Linta reiterated last night that his recent comment about the Ravens being “dumb” for not signing Joe Flacco before last season was made more to defend his client amid accusations that the quarterback was greedy and responsible for the team’s heavy offseason roster turnover.

  11. Upshaw's weight issue and other Ravens news, notes and opinions

You at least have to give young outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw some credit in acknowledging that he’s fighting weight issues and “it’s not a good look” to come into the various minicamps for a second straight year out of shape. There are plenty of players that won’t even do that, no matter how obvious it looks. Before participating in teammate Lardarius Webb’s charity softball game yesterday, Upshaw told reporters, including my colleague Aaron Wilson, that he currently weighs 285 pounds, which is at least 15 pounds heavier than he played at last season. Upshaw admitted that he’s had some “personal issues” that have prevented him from fully devoting his time and attention to working out. It would be unfair to crush the guy without knowing what he’s dealing with on a personal level. However, I think it is fair to point out that questions about his work ethic caused Upshaw to slide into the second round of last year’s draft. And when he reported for last year’s offseason activities, he was heavier than team officials had hoped. This is a big training camp for Upshaw, too. The Ravens signed Elvis Dumervil, relegating Upshaw to a reserve role. Upshaw remains very much in the team’s plans, but he’s going to have to earn his defensive snaps and coming in out of shape is probably the quickest way to earn time in head coach John Harbaugh’s doghouse.

  13. Don't forget about Jacoby Jones in Ravens' wide receiver competition

It’s surprising that someone who scored three unforgettable touchdowns during the Ravens’ Super Bowl run then spent his spring shimmying on national television is getting overlooked in the discussion about who will be the other starting wide receiver opposite Torrey Smith, but Jacoby Jones isn’t getting mentioned enough.

  17. Ravens news, notes and opinions after Wednesday's OTAs

As I expected, there was a lot more made of who didn’t show up at this week’s organized team activities than who did. The absences of Terrell Suggs, Haloti Ngata and Vonta Leach in particular seemed to spur the most questions. Again, the workouts are voluntary and some players choose to stay home and work out on their own. Coach John Harbaugh pointed out that the team didn’t see Ray Lewis much – if at all – in the offseason. Ed Reed wasn’t exactly a fixture at OTAs either. And Joe Flacco mentioned that Anquan Boldin wasn’t traditionally at the facility this time of year either. The comments weren’t made to disparage any of the three players but the point was made. The Ravens knew that those players would be ready to go when needed, which is the same feeling they have with the likes of Suggs, Ngata, Leach and Marshal Yanda, who also was a no-show. The Ravens have 90 players on their roster and all but about six of them were on the field in some capacity. And another veteran, Jacoby Jones, is expected to arrive today after his third-place finish in Dancing with the Stars. That should be far more the story than the handful of players who didn’t show at a workout they technically didn’t have to be at.

  19. Ravens could use two tight ends more often in 2013

The Ravens offense will be different without wide receiver Anquan Boldin, whose strong hands and bulky frame allowed him to snatch the majority of the passes in his area and, in turn, endear himself to Joe Flacco.
