1. Q&A with Wilde Lake football player Moise Larose

An All-State lineman on the offensive side of the ball last season, Wilde Lake's Moise Larose may be even more impressive this fall on the defensive side.

5. Bears blow game open in 2nd half, rout Jaguars 41-3

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Some worried the Bears were walking into a trap Sunday afternoon at EverBank Field, and the first half certainly resembled that.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Some worried the Bears were walking into a trap Sunday afternoon at EverBank Field, and the first half certainly resembled that. But a defense that has been playing as well as the Bears' was not going to be conquered by...

Defense rules
Defense rules 1. Bounces don't usually come in bunches for the Bears defense like this unless Mike Brown is involved. But Lovie Smith's defense is making the most of its opportunities with four touchdowns in the last two games (two interception returns...

Julius Peppers hasn't missed a game since 2009, so a nagging foot or ankle injury isn't going to slow him down. At least this year, Peppers has enough support around him to rest on the sideline a few plays without the defense missing a beat. "It's...

15. 4 downs: Bears look to improve on first down

1. You can't focus on everything at one time, Mike Tice said, so the Bears offense has made a concerted effort to improve on first down. They have been terrible to this point, gaining 77 yards on 40 first-and-10 runs and 152 yards on 35 first-and-10 passes. Both statistics rank 29th. The Bears have averaged only 3.05 yards on first down, putting quarterback Jay Cutler in a hole. One thing improves that: running the football better. If the Bears can find some first-down holes it should open up shots down field in play action. Tice has tried it the other way – play action first – and it hasn't worked.
