    Detroit Red Wings fans can breathe easy today. Defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom announced Monday that he will be returning to Detroit for his 20th season with the Red Wings. The captain, in what has become an offseason tradition, took some time early in the off-season to evaluate his options.  After discussing the situation with his family, the verdict was what all Red Wing fans were hoping for, the captain will be put off retirement to Sweden and lace up his skates in Detroit for at least one more season.

    After flirting with the idea for the last few months, Detroit Red Wings defenseman Brian Rafalski has called it a career. Citing a desire to spend more time with family, Rafalski leaves the game after a season which he called his most challenging. The Dearborn native was a member of three Stanley Cup championship teams including 2008 with the Red Wings. He leaves the game after fifteen seasons, including the last four with the Wings.
