After Fayed had a nuclear bomb detonated in Valencia, just outside of Los Angeles, the wind is blowing fallout away from the most densely populated areas. Even so, thousands are assumed dead and Fayed has four more bombs he's planning to unleash in the United States.
What's up with Jack?
After the nuclear explosion Jack watches in awe as people run around in a panic rushing to escape the fallout. He helps passengers from a crashed helicopter to safety, then phones Buchanan to have someone come pick him up. Buchanan thought Jack had decided to quit and Jack tells him, "Not after this."
What's up at CTU?
CTU is working to find out if Fayed was killed in the blast or if he's alive and in possession of the four additional nuclear bombs. Meanwhile, Assad arrives at CTU swearing to Buchanan that he is no longer the enemy.
What's up with President Palmer?
He's brought into the White House bunker for protection in case of any other attacks. He addresses the nation from the bunker in an effort to bring comfort while hiding his own fear.
What's up with Fayed?
He contacts a man named Darren McCarthy who sold Fayed the nuclear weapons. Fayed wants McCarthy to find someone who can manufacture a trigger for the remaining nuclear bombs.
What's up with Sandra Palmer and Walid?
After Walid got information to the FBI about a phrase he overheard while at the detention center, they decide to wire him so that he can get more information. Sandra is angry with FBI and concerned for Walid's safety.
How does it all end up?
Although Assad had no prior knowledge that Fayed was in possession of nuclear weapons, he's aware that Fayed did meet with a Russian general named Gredenko. Chloe & Milo compile a list of everyone who's had contact with Gredenko in the past year. One of the names on the list is Phillip Bauer Jack's father.
Buchanan calls Jack to tell him about his father's name showing up on the list. Jack wants to question his father who he hasn't spoken to in 9 years by himself. Jack phones his father's servant, Sam, who tells him his father has left abruptly without any clue as to where he was going. In addition, he left his cell phone behind so no one can contact him. Sam gives Jack the phone number of someone who may have some information Jack's brother, Graem who Jack hasn't seen since Jack's wife Teri died. We've seen him before — he's the man who was issuing orders to the corrupt President Logan in Jack's Day 5!
Meanwhile, in the yard of the detention center Walid is approached by FBI agents who brutally drag him into the bathroom, feigning an interrogation. They rough Walid up a bit and under their breath tell him to drop Fayed's name in the yard to the suspected terrorists. Salim, one of the suspects, tells the others that he believes Walid is one of them. Salim approaches Walid who pretends to be reluctant to talk. Eventually he tells Salim that the FBI confiscated Abu Fayed's phone number from him. Salim invites Walid to join him with the others.
Jack's brother Graem receives a call from Liddy, head of security at Phillip Bauer's mansion, and tells him Jack is back. Graem is shocked and says they should have killed Jack when they had the chance.
Jack phones Graem and asks if he knows where their dad is. Graem says he has no idea but he'll make some phone calls and get back to him. Afterwards, Jack calls Chloe and has her give him Graem's address. In the meantime, Graem returns to his home where his wife, Marilyn and their teenage son, Josh are watching news coverage of the explosion. Graem tells Marilyn about Jack and accuses her of still having feelings for him.
Darren McCarthy picks up his girlfriend Rita who wants to leave L.A. immediately. McCarthy tells her they're staying because there's a lot of money at stake. He then phones Fayed telling him he'll have someone to manufacture the bomb trigger within the hour.
Jack surprises Graem by arriving at his home. Graem invites Jack into his office making small talk but Jack demands to know where their father is. Graem denies knowing so Jack punches him out and ties him to a chair. He orders Graem to talk or else he'll start hurting him. Graem claims that Jack is already hurting him to which Jack says, "Trust me, I'm not." Graem continues to deny having any information. Jack grabs a plastic bag, telling Graem he leaves him no choice and wraps the bag around Graem's face suffocating him.
