In October of 2010, management of the Good Samaritan Clinic at 3701 E. 13 th St. N. transitioned from World Impact to GraceMed Health Clinic, Inc. The two organizations have been close partners since and will jointly dedicate the newly remodeled Good Samaritan Clinic on Thursday, May 24 th. Tours of the clinic begin at 4:30 pm and the formal program, including a prayer dedication, will start at 5:30 pm. Former Congressional Representative Todd Tiahrt has been a strong advocate for World Impact and GraceMed and will be in attendance.

The expanded clinic includes thirteen medical exam rooms and a sonogram room to accommodate prenatal care services. Although the clinic will focus on family practice, it will also be a ‘center of excellence’ for prenatal care. And, this clinic will host Wesley and Via Christi Family Practice Residency prenatal care resident rotations. This expansion is timely in that the Sedgwick County Health Department recently closed its prenatal care clinic and the community needs more capacity to provide quality prenatal care for expectant moms, particularly those who are uninsured or underinsured. Early prenatal care is essential in lowering infant mortality and low-birth weight rates.

To compliment the prenatal care clinical services, GraceMed recently received a grant from the United Methodist Health Ministry Fund to provide educational services for expectant and new moms. These wraparound services will include classes on ‘Becoming a Mom’ (March of Dimes curriculum), diet and exercise, breastfeeding and provide access to counseling/mental health services. GraceMed also looks forward to partnering with other community agencies to ensure expectant moms have the appropriate resources to be and stay healthy.
