3. Fence to enclose Baltimore's New Year's Eve celebration

Baltimore's free New Year's Eve fireworks are back this year, but with an added wrinkle: The Inner Harbor festivities will be encircled by a metal fence, with access restricted to nine points of entry during much of the celebration.

  5. Family ties drive Wilfong's work with heart association

It's only natural that J. Scott Wilfong, president and CEO of SunTrust Bank for the Greater Washington/Maryland area, would want to give back to the American Heart Association. After all, heart disease runs in his family. His wife, Susan, suffers from...

  7. Like/dislike: Nick Ramey

Kitsch can be cool, according to Nick Ramey. The 29-year-old ceramic artist from Aurora, Ind., is always looking for the perfect image or object to add to his artwork. His pieces are meant to be functional and sculptural — they can be used on a daily basis or simply sit as curious decorations on a shelf. Ramey is a resident artist and instructor at Baltimore Clayworks, where he teaches classes in wheel-thrown and altered pottery. On Sunday, Clayworks will be teaching a workshop as part of Free Fall Baltimore. The session includes “Storybooks Come to Life,” “Wings, Fangs and Things” and “Hold it: Make a Good Container.” Here, Ramey talks to b about AVAM, bargain shopping and his biggest source of inspiration.

  10. Jump, skip, toss – children and parents get a lesson in the art and science of play

Thousands of children, from toddlers to 12-year-olds, did something yesterday that seems almost novel in the age of computers and digital games: They went outside and played. In the chilly air of the first Sunday of October, Rash Field at Baltimore's Inner Harbor became a sprawling playground.

  14. Watchdog: Vandals wreck drinking fountains at Inner Harbor

The problem: Drinking fountains near Rash Field on the Inner Harbor promenade weren't working. The back story: Everyone expects the street furniture along Baltimore's avenues and byways to experience wear and tear now and then. But it's troubling when...

  16. Don't junk up the Inner Harbor

The op-ed piece written by two architects about the Inner Harbor was a disappointment ("Best 'theme' for Inner Harbor: the water," June 8). There's an old saying: "Don't mess with success." And I think what Jim Rouse had in mind is in place today. With...
