  7. Baltimore's investments in job creation

A strong and sustainable 21st century economy can only be built from the bottom up. And today, as President Barack Obama visits Baltimore, it is this fact that will drive us to join with him to renew a call for Congress to focus on common-sense investments that create middle-class job opportunities now and reward America's economic future.

  13. Cool potential for former icehouse

As many times as I have stood on the MARC station platform in West Baltimore, I never considered there was a fantastic, Jules Verne-like interior just across Franklin Street. I assumed the fire-damaged brick building alongside the rail tracks was just another derelict structure. After a visit there this week, I learned that one of Baltimore's fascinating industrial archaeological sites endures in the Midtown Edmondson neighborhood.

  19. Gas tax will hurt Md.'s economy

What a sad time for Marylanders. They are going to be subjected to a regressive gas tax that will have an automatic tax accelerator tied to the Consumer Price Index ("Md. Senate approves increase in gas tax," March 30). It is unfair to the gas station...

  21. Divided business community misses a chance on gas taxes

When it comes to higher gas taxes, most Maryland businesses agree on one thing: They want a guarantee that the money designated for highway revenues will go to roads and bridges. But when the rubber met the road in the Maryland House of Delegates, some major business organizations gave away the key to the lockbox.

  23. We all benefit from transit, and we should all pay for it

Opponents of the effort to raise Maryland’s gas tax have thrown around a lot of ridiculous claims in recent weeks, from the argument that the money isn’t really needed (if anything, the projected $600 million-a-year return is not enough to meet Maryland’s future transportation needs) to hand-wringing over local transportation aid that was diverted toward balancing the state budget during the depths of the recession — as if using the money to spare cuts to schools or avoid tax increases wasn’t preferable to pot hole repairs.
