  13. Three Great New Openings at UConn's Benton Museum

The state's art museum/gallery scene seems to be heating up these days. UConn's Benton Museum keeps pace this spring, with three new exhibits that draw on their deep reserves of 18th-century works on Classical themes (<em>"These Groves Were Once the Home of Fauns and Nymphs"</em>), European and 19th-century American art (<em>Director's Cut</em>, with works chosen by interim director and curator Thomas P. Bruhn) and early 20th-century paintings and works on paper (<em>Millionaires and Mechanics, Bootleggers and Flappers: Speaking of "The Great Gatsby,"</em> featuring Everett Shinn's 1909 oil-on-board <em>The Dancer</em>, pictured). Check the Benton's website for free gallery talks. (There's one scheduled for the "These Groves" exhibit on Jan. 30 at 12:15 p.m., with assistant curator Carla Galfano.)

  23. The Top 10 Connecticut Business Stories of 2012

In some ways, 2012 was a carryover year from news of 2011, as the governor continued his aggressive economic development spending, United Technologies Corp. consummated a deal it announced in 2011, and the year's nastiest labor strike grew out of a 2011 lockout. But in the big picture of the state's economy, Connecticut got worse, not better, compared with the nation. That became the state's top business story of 2012 and will shape the scene in 2013.
