    There's a vintage house in Old Town with a fascinating link to the Chicago Fire. It went up just after that 1871 blaze, and like numerous other Old Town homes was built from a kit of construction materials and lumber. Some of the lumber was burned wood reclaimed from the great fire's ashes. It's said even today, when the winds are just right, it's possible to detect the scent of charred timber within that old dwelling.
