3. Do state police still set speed traps in the sky?

Q: We have seen the highway signs that read "speed enforced from aircraft." Is this really so? I don't know of anyone that was ever caught speeding in such a way. Today we hear so much about unmanned 'drones,' including a recent story in the Sunday paper about the increasing use of surveillance drones by various government agencies. Could it be that police will use such a device to keep an eye on highway speeders?

  5. Tony Iannelli, President and CEO, Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce

For the past 15 years, it has been my honor to preside over the fastest growing Chamber of Commerce in the United States. Serving 800 members in 1998 when I began this journey through today, we now close in on 6,000 members strong, and there is no doubt as to how that growth came to fruition. It can easily be summed up by our mantra: "The Power of Partnerships," business leaders coming together for the common good of the Lehigh Valley — that's how this Chamber, the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, became the ninth largest in the United States.

  13. Truck lanes on I-78 will give cars a pass

Q: A recent article described planned safety improvements to I-78 around the Krumsville interchange. The work will include truck lanes that slow-moving tractor-trailers could use to allow cars to pass safely. That's great, but I must wonder if PennDOT planners have recently traveled on 78 between Route 33 and the Route 309 split. The same conditions often prevail there as well. It is with little exaggeration that I claim to regularly be stuck behind two columns of traffic while a truck going 46 mph passes one doing 45. This creates a serious safety hazard with other traffic flowing at 65 mph or more. When will truck lanes be added to eastbound 78 approaching 33 and westbound 78 just beyond Route 412? I know this situation won't be resolved overnight, but it would be encouraging to know that PennDOT's engines are being revved at the starting line.
