He was diagnosed with testicular cancer on June 12, 2012 and passed away on January 27, 2013.

Students raised money for a college scholarship fund in honor of Michael, by selling purple balloons for $2.

Wednesday morning, students read from the Bible, Rosie Keating sang a song, and then students released the balloons in Michael’s memory.

Keating is a junior at Glenvar High School. She says she didn’t know Michael personally but wanted to do something nice for him and her fellow students. "I think it's pretty cool how the students are coming together to do this to show that Michael’s in a better place, cancer free," explained Keating.

Kids sold more than 70 balloons and raised nearly $200.
