Robert Griffin III passed for 320 yards and rushed for 42 more as the underdog Redskins upset the Saints 40-32. The game was not as close as the score would indicate. The Saints scored two touchdowns in the final 6:19 of the fourth quarter.
Said Saints interim head coach Aaron Kromer, "our fans deserved better."
The Saints were unbeaten at home in 2011 and averaged 41 points a game in the Superdome.
Griffin tossed an 88 yard first quarterback touchdown pass to Pierre Garcon. He also tossed a 5 yard touchdown pass to Aldrick Robinson in the second quarter.
Washington coach Mike Shanahan said, "Robert madea a lot of plays that only very talented players can make."
The Saints rushed the ball 10 timesfor 32 yards. The Saints were also flagged for 107 yards in penalties.
