CHICAGO—
The Chicago Board of Education approved the new three-year Chicago Teachers Union contract Tuesday
The action came at the board's first meeting with its new CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett.
She replaced Jean Claude Brizzard three weeks after the teachers returned to the classroom following a bitter strike.
Brizzard resigned by mutual agreement after only 17-months on the job after "constant questions" about his leadership became a distraction to Mayor Rahm Emanuel's reform goals.
Byrd-Bennett will receive $250,000 dollars a year for three years, the same base salary as her predecessor.
