Bloomberg Beer-Drinking Admission Puzzles Crowd
NEW YORK (WPIX) - For the second time in less than a week, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg shocked a crowd with a strange, alcohol-related comment. "I actually put ice in my beer," Bloomberg boldly announced Monday at the opening of Brooklyn Brewery's latest expansion. Last week Bloomberg firmly inserted his foot into his mouth during a speech at the Irish Historical Society, but yesterday the mayor was apparently undeterred. Last Wednesday, Bloomberg shocked a mostly Irish crowd Wednesday night when he joked about being used to seeing "inebriated Irish hanging out the windows" of the Irish Historical Society on Fifth Ave. More than 100 leading Irish-Americans had gathered to celebrate the release of the book "Celebrating 250 Years of the New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade" by historian John Ridge. Jaws dropped and some even booed after the mayor made his bizarre joke during the beginning of his speech. The stunned crowd included several notable Irish and Irish-Americans, including Irish Counsul General Noel Kilkenny, author Mary Higgins Clark and St. Patrick's Parade Chairman John Dunleavy.
