GRAMERCY PARK (WPIX)—You should see more cops around synagogues across the city, according to a message Police Commissioner Ray Kelly gave to Jewish leaders earlier this week.
Kelly says there will be heightened security and the deployment of heavily armed roving counter terrorism units out protecting synagogues and other Jewish sites this week for the Passover holiday.
This comes on the wake of a deadly attack on a religious school in France. There is also concern about the intensified rhetoric between Israel and the U.S. and Iran over Iran's nuclear program. New York is home to the largest Jewish population outside of Israel making it a prime terror target.
The NYPD says there know of no known specific threats against the city.
