Lester Dean Witzel, 85, of Winchester, widower of the late Ruth Ann Stephens Witzel, passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.
Mr. Witzel was born in Jefferson County, Ill., on Jan. 13, 1927, to the late Tony and Eula Bryant Witzel. He was a veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He was retired from the Department of Defense and was a member of the loyal order of the Moose Lodge. In addition, Mr. Witzel attended St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy (Virgil) Paynter and Debra (David) Howard, both of Clark County; four sons, Dale (Sandy) Witzel of Moline, Ill., Terry Witzel of Elizabethtown, Donald (Renee) Witzel and Richard (Mary Sue) Witzel, both of Clark County, a daughter in law, Linda Witzel of Clark County; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, James Witzel.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at Scobee Funeral Home by Dr. Ed Mesta.
Burial will be in the Clarmont Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Mr. Witzel’s grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 22, at the funeral home.
