1 The George Rogers Clark boys basketball team won the 10th Region championship for the second year in a row and compiled a 31-6 record. The Cardinals defeated Owensboro Apollo in the opening round, before falling to eventual state champion Louisville Trinity in the quarterfinals. Clark won the Whitaker Bank Fort Herrod Classic, the Ashland Invitational and also compiled a 17-game winning streak during the regular season. Team member Bopper Stenzel made the Kentucky-Indiana All-Star team.

2 Steven Collins was hired to succeed Paul Columbia as football coach at George Rogers Clark High School and went 1-10 in his first season at the helm in a year of transition for the Cardinals. After losing its first nine games, Clark ended the regular-season on a high note by defeating Rowan County at Cardinal Stadium before losing to Louisville Trinity on the opening round of the Class 6A playoffs.

3 Longtime George Rogers Clark girls basketball coach Scott True stepped down and accepted a similar post at Lexington Catholic last spring. True was 179-135 at Clark and guided the team to the 10th Region title in 2010. In his last three seasons, the Lady Cards compiled a 61-31 record, including a 24-8 mark two years ago. In addition to the region title, Clark finished as region runner-up in 2009 and 2011.

4 After spending seven seasons as junior varsity and boys varsity assistant coach at George Rogers Clark, Robbie Graham took over the reigns of the girls basketball program. Graham took over for Scott True, who resigned and took a similar post at Lexington Catholic. Graham also coached under the late Lake Kelly at Fleming County and also has coached numerous teams on the AAU and youth sports circuit.

5 In his first season, former George Rogers Clark standout and Major League pitcher Matt Ginter guided the baseball Cardinals to the 10th Region semifinals. Clark finished with a 20-14 record and compiled an impressive 20-7 record down the stretch, a mark that included a six-game losing streak before the setback to the Mustangs at Whitaker Field in Mount Sterling.

6 George Rogers Clark diver and University of Kentucky signee Colby Coleman finished third in the state diving competition at the University of Louisville. Coleman’s score of 485.70 followed second-place finisher Logan Stevens of Scott High (502.00) and winner Justin Youtsey of Beechwood. Youtsey finished with a score of 510.25.

7 George Rogers Clark junior golfer Taylor Ritchie qualified as an individual after shooting an 88 during the 8th Region Tournament in Georgetown and became the first Clark player to compete in the state event in nine years. Meredith Johns qualified as an individual in 2003. Ritchie shot a 106 in the opening round of the state event at the Bowling Green Country Club and missed the final state cut.

8 Former George Rogers Clark football standout Yeremiah Bell spent his first nine seasons with the Miami Dolphins, the team that drafted him in the sixth round of the NFL¿Draft in 2003. Bell switched teams during the off-season after the Dolphins released him, signing a one-year contract with the New York Jets.

9 George Rogers Clark boys soccer coach Ian Collins stepped down following one season at the helm in which he guided the Cardinals to a 7-9-2 record and the school’s first postseason victory since 2007. Clark defeated Bourbon County in the opening round of the 39th District Tournament before losing to Montgomery County in the finals. Clark dropped a 4-3 loss to Harrison County in the opening round of the 10th Region Tournament. Collins was previously the men’s soccer coach at the University of Kentucky.

10 The George Rogers Clark girls volleyball team won their fourth straight district title and topped Mason County, then lost to Campbell County in the 10th Region Tournament.¿
