Mr. Billy Marcus “Bill” Deveary, age 79, of Madison, Ind., a former resident of Winchester, entered this life on Jan. 1, 1934, in Shelby County, Kentucky. He was the loving son of the late, Thomas Hilton and Stella Gross Deveary.
He resided most of his life in Jefferson County and attended Hanover High School where he played on the basketball team. Bill was united in marriage on Sept. 23, 1955, to Sharla Rose Travis. This happy union was blessed with two daughters, Carla “Susie” and Linda.
Bill first drove and delivered for 10 years with Thompson Dairy and Chesty and served as district manager at the completion of his career with them. He then co-owned and co-operated with Bob Webster the Broadway Service Station in downtown Madison for 28 years. Bill then served as a mechanic and bus driver for 25 years with the Madison Consolidated School System. He retired after five years serving as a driver for American Coach. Bill found great enjoyment in gardening and sharing his produce with his friends and family. He was an avid camper, bowler, fisherman and enjoyed going to music events, trips to Branson and restoring and tinkering on old cars. Bill was a member of Kent Christian Church and now attended North Madison Baptist Church. He enjoyed membership in the Madison Moose Lodge No. 765 and was an honorary farmer with FFA. Bill was proud to serve as the bus driver for the Madison Cubs for all their sporting events. Bill was a devoted husband, loving pops and adoring poppy. Billy died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at 10 a.m. in a car accident at Clifty Drive & Meadow Lane intersection in Madison, Ind.
Billy will be missed by his loving daughters, Carla “Susie” McGee and her husband, Pastor Frank J. McGee, of Madison, Ind., Linda Stanton and her husband, Jeff of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; his loving grandchildren, Stacey McGee Castellanos, Stefanie McGee Smith and her husband, Jacob, Jessica Layne Stanton, Krista Rose Marie Stanton; his honorary grandchild, Kim Young; his adoring great-grandchildren Micah, Trinity and Barry; his honorary great-grandchild, Summer; his sister, Jean Stodghill of Lexington, Ind.; his sisters-in-law, Mary Deveary of Madison, Ind. and Wauneta Deveary of Madison, Ind.; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Hilton and Stella Gross Deveary; his wife, Sharla Rose Travis Deveary died, Oct. 17, 2004; his faithful companion Wanda Dunaway died, Oct. 5, 2012; his brothers, Calvin, Prewitt and Emmett Deveary; his sisters, Lucille Manley and Hazel Marie Deveary.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at 1:30 p.m., by Pastor Frank J. McGee at the North Madison Baptist Church, 1906 Orchard Street in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Fairmount Cemetery in Madison, Indiana.
Friends may call Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Ind. and Friday from 11:30 a.m. until time of the service at the North Madison Baptist Church, 1906 Orchard Street in Madison, Ind..
