If anyone needed any further proof of Connecticut's Blue State status, our state Supreme Court is now about to have it's first openly gay member.
Gov. Dannel Malloy has named Andrew McDonald of Stamford to become a justice on Connecticut's highest court.
McDonald, a long-time state senator from Stamford, has been serving as Malloy's legal counsel for the past two years. Before that, he was co-chairman of the legislature's influential Judiciary Committee.
No one (except perhaps some right-wing fundementalist types) makes a big deal any more about gay Connecticut lawmakers. And McDonald's appoinment to the state Supreme Court isn't expected to cause much excitement at his confirmation hearing before the General Assembly.
That fact alone is an indication how far Connecticut is from some states where having a gay Supreme Court justice would be a very big and controversial deal.
